Wood Carving and Painting Experience from Kandy
(SKU: LK931702AA) Wood carving has always been an integral part in traditional wooden architecture in Sri Lanka, especially the hill capital, Kandy. The wood carving skills of these master craftsmen brings you detailed carvings which exudes richness and creativity. A skill that can manipulate wood in such a way is indeed an art form and we at Lakpura offer you the chance to witness these masters at work. The tradition of wood carving dates back to the temples of Lankathilaka, Gadaladeniya and Embekke all belonging to the Kandy district and what better place to experience this art form than the hills itself?
Experience:
The craft of wood carving has been passed down through generations within special artisan families. At this specific workshop, you will encounter skilled workers practising their craft, carving complex figures of Lord Buddha and various deities, detailed figurines of Sri Lankan elephants and other animals, and also local village sceneries depicting our rich heritage and traditions.
The workers will demonstrate various techniques that are used in wood carving and you will be taught the methods used to paint these carved figures. Every visitor is offered a carved figurine (typically an elephant) to paint and make it your own. Everything that you need to paint will be provided by the workshop.
